Four Blue Devils Named To The All-ACC Academic Women?s Golf Team

DURHAM, N.C. ? Four members of the Duke women's golf team -- Amanda Blumenherst, Jennie Lee, Jennifer Pandolfi and Alison Whitaker -- each were named to the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Academic Team, which was announced by Commissioner John D. Swofford.

Blumenherst was also named the 2008 ACC Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A junior History major, Blumenherst is a three-time ACC All-Academic team selection and a two-time member of ESPN The Magazine's Academic All-America teams. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native, who also minors in English and Theatre Studies, received the 2008 Dinah Shore Trophy and the 2007 Edith Cummings Munson Golf Award for in recognition of her academic achievements.

Athletically, Blumenherst is a three-time National Player of the Year and the first three-time Golfstat Cup Award winner. She is the first repeat winner of the Nancy Lopez Award as the top amateur golfer in the nation. Blumenherstt led Duke to the ACC championship each of her first three collegiate seasons, as well as NCAA titles in 2006 and 2007. She is the three-time ACC Player of the Year and a three-time conference champion.

A three-time All-ACC and three-time All-America, Lee earned the honor for the first time in 2008. Pandolfi, a 2008 Blue Devil graduate and four-time All-ACC selection, and Whitaker, a two-time All-ACC and honorable mention All-America, received the honor for the second straight season.

Six other golfers who earned All-ACC honors this past season secured spots on the 2008 All-ACC Academic Women's Golf Team. To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

Players earning both All-Academic and All-Conference honors in 2008 were Duke's Blumenherst, Lee, Pandolfi and Whitaker; Caroline Westrup from Florida State; Sydney Crane from North Carolina and Wake Forest's Nannette Hill.

Eleven golfers were repeat honorees from the 2007 All-ACC Academic team, which includes Duke's Blumenherst, Pandolfi and Whitaker; Florida State's Whitney Brummett and Westrup; Maryland's Kathryn Trotter; Miami's Jessica Steward; Sydney Crane and Ann Laney from North Carolina; Stephanie Derrey from NC State and Virginia's Whitney Neuhauser.

Duke and Florida State each placed four golfers on the team. NC State followed with three honorees, while Miami, North Carolina and Wake Forest each had two. Rounding out the 20-member team with one selection apiece were Boston College, Maryland and Virginia.
