The match started at 125-pounds with Duke's Nick Adamo taking on Ben Altman. Adamo registered the early takedown for an early 2-0 lead before Altman battled his way to 3-2 lead at the end of the first period with an escape and a takedown. Altman attacked right away to start the second stanza and got Adamo in trouble to register the fall in 3:40 for the early 6-0 lead for Davidson.
Wrestling for the first time in a Blue Devil uniform, redshirt freshman Nico Cortese lined up against Alex Radsky. Cortese started the scoring with a takedown. Radsky picked up a point from an escape, but Cortese answered right back with another two-point takedown for a 4-2 lead. After building up over a minute of riding time, Cortese was awarded another point for Radsky fleeing the mat for a 5-2 lead after the first session. Radsky started to make a comeback in the second period, cutting the lead to 5-3 with an escape. In the third period, Cortese battled hard to hold off a charging Radsky for the 7-5 decision.
Bell dropped a tough 10-2 major decision at 141 pounds as Davidson pulled ahead 10-3 after three matches. The Blue Devils came right back with a technical fall from Brent Jorge at 149 pounds. Jorge attacked from the opening seconds and bounded out to an 11-0 lead after three minutes. He continued to dominate Carl Sandercock to cruise to the technical fall in 4:13.
The quickest performance of the evening came courtesy of redshirt freshman Dak Adamson at 157 pounds. Competing in his first Blue Devil dual match, Adamson needed just 35 seconds to pin Brent Mowry and give Duke a 14-10 lead in the match.
The Wildcats grabbed a hard-fought 5-0 decision by Tyler Mullen at 165 pounds before Duke closed out the match with four straight wins.
Senior Voris Tejada was outstanding at 174 pounds as he attacked right from the opening whistle. After registering two points for a takedown in the first 15 seconds, Tejada breezed to an 11-2 lead after the first three minutes. Both points for Davidson's Jorge Estrada came on escapes where Tejada let him out of the down position. Tejada needed just two more minutes to finish the match, scoring a near fall for three points in the final seconds for the 19-3 technical fall win.
Redshirt freshman Diego Bencomo continued the streak at 184 pounds. Bencomo controlled the match from the very beginning with three takedowns in the opening stanza and two points for a near fall. He added six more points in the second period to go in front 15-2 and needed just 13 more seconds to register two more points for the technical fall.
With Duke leading the match 24-13, redshirt seniors John Barone and Konrad Dudziak quickly ended the match, needing just a combined 3:51 to pin their opponents. Competing at 197 pounds, Barone scored an early takedown and near fall and pinned Mark Jeevratnam in 1:25.
Just 1:26 later the match ended with Dudziak pinning Charlie Wolff at heavyweight. Dudziak earned a takedown in opening moments and the rest was history as he posted his third fall of the season to give Duke the 36-13 victory.
