DURHAM, N.C. ? Former Duke women's soccer standout Rebecca Moros has signed with the Washington Freedom of the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league.
Moros, who was Washington's sixth round pick in the 2009 WPS Draft, is a 2006 Duke graduate and a member of the Freedom's 2007 and 2008 W-League teams, helping the squad win the W-League championship in 2007.
A four-year letterwinner from 2003-06, Moros earned third-team All-America accolades in 2006, while also being named All-ACC on three different occasions. She finished her career at Duke with 15 goals, 20 assists and 50 points.
A final roster cut down to 18 players and four developmental players must be finalized by March 25, four days before the Freedom play in the WPS Inaugural Match in Los Angeles against the Sol. Washington will open its 2009 home schedule on Saturday, April 11 against the Chicago Red Stars at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Md.
In other WPS news, former Duke goalkeeper Allison Lipsher remains on the 25-player preseason roster for the Boston Breakers, following two sets of cuts.
Lipsher, a four-year letterwinner with the Blue Devils, graduated in 2007 and owns 33 career shutouts and a Duke career-best 0.87 goals-against average. Her 33 shutouts ranks second in the Blue Devil record books.
Boston will have to make a final cut down to 18, plus four developmental players, upon returning from an eight-day training session in Ft. Lauderdale on March 22. The team's opening day roster must be finalized and announced with the same numbers by March 25.
The Boston Breakers, one of seven WPS teams, will open its inaugural season in April and continue through August.
