DURHAM, N.C. – Each week during the 2010 football season, GoDuke.com will take a look back at a memorable performance by a Blue Devil in a series called Hall of Heroes.
Featured this week is former quarterback David Green. On November 15, 1997, Green, a reserve senior quarterback, entered the Georgia Tech game in the third quarter with the Blue Devils trailing 35-11. He had completed only six passes all year when he entered the contest but went on to complete 21-of-27 passes for 335 yards and four touchdowns in the fourth quarter alone.
Green connected with wideout Corey Thomas for all four touchdowns in that magical fourth quarter. He hit Thomas on a 36-yard touchdown with 14:20 left in the game to cut the Tech lead to 38-18. After a Yellow Jacket field goal made it 41-18, Green found Thomas on a 19-yard scoring strike to cut the lead to 41-25. Green and Thomas later connected on scoring passes of four and 18 yards but it wasn't enough as Duke came up short, 41-38.
Thomas finished the game with 16 catches for 276 yards, 204 of the yards coming on nine catches in the fourth quarter.
