Helfet's First Career Start
Junior tight end Cooper Helfet earned his first career start as a Blue Devil after playing in nine previous games this season in a reserve role. He is the fourth tight end to start for Duke this season, joining redshirt seniors Brett Huffman and Brandon King and redshirt freshman Jack Farrell.
Renfree Throws TD Pass to Kelly
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Sean Renfree connected with senior wide receiver Austin Kelly for a 37-yard touchdown pass. The touchdown pass was the 13th of the season for Renfree and 17th of his career. For Kelly it was his third touchdown grab of the year and eighth of his career.
300-Yard Game For Renfree
Renfree passed for over 300 yards for the fifth time this season to put him third on Duke's single season list.
Renfree Moves Up Single Season Charts
Renfree completed 30-of-41 pass attempts for 334 yards. He now has 261 completions to rank fourth, 425 attempts to rank sixth and 2,889 yards to rank sixth.
Interception Free
Renfree extended his streak of consecutive passes without an interception to 157 against Georgia Tech. The streak currently ranks as the third longest in school history.
Connette Scores Seventh Rushing Touchdown
True freshman Brandon Connette scored from 20 yards out for his seventh rushing touchdown of the season. The seven rushing touchdowns are a school record for a freshman and are tied for second most by a quarterback in one season in Duke history. The run was the third of 20 yards or more for Connette this season.
Varner Now Ninth All-Time in Catches
Junior wide receiver Donovan Varner had seven catches to move into ninth on the school's all-time list with 142 receptions.
Vernon Nearing Single Season Records
Sophomore wide receiver Conner Vernon caught seven passes for 67 yards, giving him 68 catches and 918 yards. His 68 catches are six shy of the single season record while his 918 yards are 82 shy of the sixth 1,000-yard season in school history.
Varner Joins Vernon With Two 50+ Catch Seasons
Junior wide receiver Donovan Varner became the sixth player in school history with 50 or more receptions in two seasons, joining his teammate Conner Vernon on the list.
Scott As Receiver
The five receptions by sophomore running back Desmond Scott move him into 10th on Duke's single season list for catches by a running back with 33.
Daniels and Brown Team Up on Fumble Again
Junior safety Matt Daniels caused a fumble in the first quarter which was recovered by true freshman Kelby Brown. It is the third time this season Daniels has caused a fumble. All three have been recovered by Brown who now has four fumble recoveries on the season. Daniels has caused three fumbles in back-to-back seasons to give him six in his career. Brown is the first Duke player since 2002 (Terrell Smith) to recover four fumbles in a season.
Fourth Quarter Turnover
In the fourth quarter, redshirt sophomore Kenny Anunike recorded his first career caused fumble and Duke gained possession when Daniels fell on the ball. It was the second fumble recovery of the season for Daniels and third of his career.
Forcing Turnovers
The Blue Devils have forced a turnover in six straight games and in nine of the 11 games on the season. The two caused turnovers against Georgia Tech give Duke two or more in seven games this season. Of the 17 forced turnovers, nine have come on fumble recoveries and eight on interceptions.
Kromah Hits 100 Tackles
With 13 tackles in the game, redshirt senior linebacker Abraham Kromah became the 56th player in school history with over 100 tackles in a season as he now has 109 tackles on the year. He is the first player since 2008 to hit the 100-mark as Michael Tauiliili and Vincent Rey each had over 100 stops that season.
Double Digit Tackles
Kromah recorded 13 tackles to give him 10 or more in seven of the 11 games this season. He has tallied at least 10 tackles in seven of the last eight games after not posting 10 tackles in his first three seasons. He also had one tackle for loss to give him a team-leading 8.5 on the year.
Egboh Adds Two Sacks
Redshirt senior defensive end Patrick Egboh had two sacks and has now recorded a sack in three of the last four games to give him a team-high 4.5 on the season.
Snyderwine Makes Career Long
Redshirt junior kick Will Snyderwine tied the game at 3-3 with a career-long 52-yard field goal in the first quarter. It was his second career made attempt of 50 yards or more as he is now 2-of-3 in his career. It was the 19th made field goal of 50 or more yards in school history.
Field Goal Streak Ends at 18
Snyderwine missed a 33-yard field goal with 9:20 remaining in the game and Duke trailing 23-20. The missed field goal ended a streak of 18 consecutive made attempts for Snyderwine.
Snyderwine Moves Up Career Charts
The two made field goals move Snyderwine into a tie for second on Duke's career made field goal list with Doug Peterson at 37 made attempts.
Snyderwine Second in Single Season Scoring
The eight points for Snyderwine propel him into second on Duke's single season scoring list with 90 points. He is now 14 points away from the school record of 104 held by Clarkston Hines in 1989.
