DURHAM, N.C. - Senior guard Jon Scheyer has been selected as one of 11 finalists for the 2010 Bob Cousy Award as announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Friday.
The list of candidates for the award given annually to the nation's top point guard has been trimmed from the original total of 73 players to 20 and now to 11. Beginning February 5, fans will be able to vote for the top point guard at www.cousyaward.com. The player that receives the most fan votes will receive one vote toward the final committee vote. Fan voting will run for one month, concluding on March 5.
Scheyer leads the ACC and ranks fourth nationally with a 3.2:1 assist-to-turnover ratio this season. He also ranks 10th in the country with a .902 free throw percentage (111-of-123), a mark that ranks as the fourth best in a single season in school history. While leading the Blue Devils to an 18-4 overall record and an ACC-best 6-2 conference ledger, Scheyer has averaged 18.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
The other 10 finalists for the Cousy Award are Matt Bouldin (Gonzaga), Sherron Collins (Kansas), Devan Downey (South Carolina), Trevon Hughes (Wisconsin), Jeremy Lin (Harvard), Kalin Lucas (Michigan State), Ronald Moore (Siena), Scottie Reynolds (Villanova), Greivis Vasquez (Maryland) and John Wall (Kentucky).
The committee will narrow the list of finalists to five by March 1 with the winner of the 2010 Bob Cousy Award to be announced at the Hall of Fame's class announcement on Monday, April 5 in Indianapolis as part of NCAA Final Four weekend.
