NOVEMBERGame 9: Virginia at Duke, November 6
Series: Virginia leads, 32-29
Virginia in 2009: 3-9 overall record … finished sixth in the ACC Coastal Division with a 2-6 league record … lost to Duke, 28-17, on October 31.
Duke-Virginia Last Year: Duke quarterback
Thaddeus Lewis threw a 42-yard go-ahead touchdown pass to
Conner Vernon with 3:45 left in the game to lift the Blue Devils to a 28-17 win over the Cavaliers … Following the touchdown pass, Duke added a seven-yard fumble return for a touchdown by
Charlie Hatcher and a 43-yard field goal from
Will Snyderwine to account for the final margin … Snyderwine finished with five field goals while Lewis threw for 343 yards on 24 completions.
Noteworthy: With victories in each of the past two seasons over Virginia, Duke has won two games in a row over the Cavaliers for the first time since 1981-82.
Significant historical Duke win: The Blue Devils snapped an eight-game losing streak in Charlottesville with a dramatic 24-17 double overtime win on October 9, 1999 … With six seconds remaining in regulation, Duke's wide receiving duo of
Scottie Montgomery and Richmond Flowers hooked up for a nine-yard touchdown pass to send the game into extra sessions … After both teams missed field goals in the first overtime period, Duke quarterback Spencer Romine fired a seven-yard scoring strike to tight end Benjamin Watson before cornerback Lamar Grant sealed the win with an interception on Virginia's possession … Montgomery was sensational in the contest, catching eight passes for 172 yards in addition to throwing the game-tying touchdown pass … The win also marked the first for Blue Devil head coach Carl Franks, a 1982 Duke graduate.
Significant historical Virginia win: After dropping 10 of the previous 11 meetings, the Cavaliers exploded for a 50-20 win over Duke on October 12, 1968 by setting ACC single-game records for total offensive yards (603) and rushing yards (484) … For Virginia, Jeffrey Anderson rushed 24 times for 183 yards while Frank Quayle added 182 yards on 15 carries … Quayle would go on to earn ACC Player of the Year honors after ranking ninth nationally in rushing while Cavalier skipper George Blackburn received the league's Coach of the Year accolade.

Game 10: Boston College at Duke, November 13Series: Boston College leads, 3-1
Boston College in 2009: 8-5 overall record … finished second in the ACC Atlantic Division with a 5-3 league record … lost to Southern Cal, 24-13, in the Emerald Bowl.
Duke-Boston College Last Year: N/A
Noteworthy: Duke head coach
David Cutcliffe and Boston College head coach Frank Spaziani went head-to-head in the Sugar Bowl on January 1, 1991 … Cutcliffe was coaching the quarterbacks for Tennessee while Spaziani was coordinating Virginia's defense, with the Volunteers getting the best of the Cavaliers by a 23-22 score.
Significant historical Duke win: In the first meeting between the two schools, Duke posted a 25-9 victory over the Eagles on October 1, 1927.
Significant historical Boston College win: The Eagles blanked Duke, 6-0, on October 7, 1928 on their way to a perfect 9-0 campaign … The win over the Blue Devils marked one of four shutouts on the year for a BC squad that outscored its opponents by a 263-39 count on the season.

Game 11: Duke at Georgia Tech, November 20
Series: Georgia Tech leads, 46-30-1
Georgia Tech in 2009: 11-3 overall record … finished first in the ACC Coastal Division with a 7-1 league record … defeated Duke, 49-10, on November 14 … won the ACC championship with a 39-34 win over Clemson … lost to Iowa, 24-14, in the Orange Bowl.
Duke-Georgia Tech Last Year: After the Blue Devils scored the afternoon's first 10 points, seventh-ranked Georgia Tech used three touchdowns in the second quarter to pull away from Duke in a 49-10 decision … Yellow Jacket quarterback Josh Nesbitt threw for 195 yards while running back Jonathan Dwyer added 110 yards and two TDs on the ground.
Noteworthy: For five straight seasons (1946-50), coaching legends Wallace Wade of Duke and Bobby Dodd of Georgia Tech squared off against one another, with the Yellow Jackets winning the first three meetings and the Blue Devils the final pair.
Significant historical Duke win: On November 8, 2003 in Durham, Duke interim head coach
Ted Roof, a 1987 graduate of Georgia Tech, guided the Blue Devils to a 41-17 win over his alma mater … Duke running back
Chris Douglas rushed for 218 yards and two TDs while linebacker
Malcolm Ruff returned an interception 42 yards for a touchdown as Duke snapped a 30-game losing streak in ACC action.
Significant historical Georgia Tech win: Duke head coach Bill Murray called fourth-ranked Georgia Tech “the greatest team in the country” after the Yellow Jackets' 28-7 win over the sixth-ranked Blue Devils on November 1, 1952 … Georgia Tech would go on to a perfect 12-0 record and claim the national title.

Game 12: North Carolina at Duke, November 27
Series: North Carolina leads, 56-36-4
North Carolina in 2009: 8-5 overall record … finished fourth in the ACC Coastal Division with a 4-4 league record … defeated Duke, 19-6, on November 7 … lost to Pittsburgh, 19-17, in the Meinike Car Care Bowl.
Duke-North Carolina Last Year: Duke managed just 125 offensive yards and six points as North Carolina posted a 19-6 victory … Tar Heel running back Ryan Houston rushed 37 times for 164 yards.
Noteworthy: The battle for the Victory Bell began in 1948 with North Carolina earning possession with a 20-0 win … Duke head cheerleader Loring Jones and his UNC counterpart, Norman Spear, decided on the idea with Jones designing the model and Spear obtaining the actual bell from an old railroad train.
Significant historical Duke win: Duke wrapped up a share of the 1989 ACC championship in Chapel Hill with a 41-0 win in head coach Steve Spurrier's last game with the Blue Devils … Duke quarterback Dave Brown threw for a school-record 479 yards as the Blue Devil defense blanked the Tar Heels for the first time since 1955.
Significant historical North Carolina win: North Carolina running back Mike Voight's two-point conversion with 37 seconds remaining in the fourth period served to be the difference in a 39-38 win over Duke on November 20, 1976 … Duke had taken a 38-31 advantage with 2:53 left on Mike Dunn's nine-yard scoring run and a two-point conversion by Tony Benjamin, but the Tar Heels marched 79 yards -- thanks in part to a 34-yard pass interference penalty assessed against the Blue Devils -- for the game-winning score.
