DURHAM, N.C. – Former Duke football coach Wallace Wade will be enshrined into the Southern Conference Hall of Fame on June 1, 2010 in Hilton Head, S.C.
Wade will be inducted along with Everett Case (N.C. State), Mary Jayne Harrelson (Appalachian State), Fred Hetzel (Davidson), Rod Hundley (West Virginia), Banks McFadden (Clemson) and J. Dallas Shirley (Southern Conference).
Wade served as the head football coach at two schools in the Southern Conference – Alabama (1923-30) and Duke (1931-41) – and served as the league's first commissioner from 1950-60. He helped the Crimson Tide to three national championships in 1925, 1926 and 1930 and later guided the Blue Devils to six Southern Conference crowns in 1933, 1935, 1936, 1938, 1939 and 1941. Wade was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1955.
