In a rematch if the 2009 NCAA Semifinal, fourth-seed Dudziak and Zabriskie squared off for a chance to vie for a national title. Looking to avenge the loss he suffered a year ago, the Iowa State senior garnered the first points of the match with a takedown midway through the first period.
Dudziak was able to escape the grasp of Zabriskie a few seconds later to cut his deficit to just one at 2-1 after the opening three minutes. With the Blue Devil senior on bottom to start the second quarter, Dudziak evened the score with an escape.
The native of Bayonne, N.J., followed with a shot to the Cyclone's ankle, but Zabriskie was able to counter to get the takedown and go in front 4-3 after two period. Dudziak nearly added a takedown of his own at the end of the second, but just ran out of time.
Zabriskie opened the third period with an escape to make it a 5-3 match. Trailing by two and with Zabriskie owning 1:09 of riding time, Dudziak was in need of a takedown and 10 seconds off the riding time to force overtime.
The Blue Devil heavyweight took a single leg shot near the edge and held Zabriskie on the edge to score a two-point takedown to tie the match 5-5. Erasing the riding time advantage with 25 seconds left in regulation, Dudziak nearly registered a takedown, but in the restart he allowed Zabriskie up to give him a 6-5 lead with 15 seconds.
Dudziak, who is 17-1 on the season, will face the 11th-seeded Mitchell Monteiro of Cal State Bakersfield in the wrestleback bracket on Saturday morning. The winner will advance to the third-place match, which will be held in the evening.
