DURHAM, N.C. – Duke football standouts
Brett Huffman and
Vincent Rey were named recipients of the University Scholar Athlete award by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Inc., on Monday night at the Bill Dooley Triangle East Chapter of North Carolina annual awards dinner held on the N.C. Central University campus.
Huffman, a rising fifth-year senior tight end from Massillon, Ohio, has played in 36 career games for the Blue Devils with 33 pass receptions for 341 yards and four touchdowns. In 2010, he caught 18 passes for 167 yards and three scores.
Rey, a Far Rockaway, N.Y., native who completed his playing career last fall, appeared in 48 games and amassed 330 tackles with 28.0 tackles for loss and three interceptions. He was a second team All-ACC pick in 2010 after leading Duke with 98 tackles.
Other recipients of the 2010 award included Sean Allen (East Carolina), Will Scott (N.C. Central), Andy Barbee (N.C. State) and Lowell Dyer (North Carolina).
