ATLANTA - The Duke track and field teams turned in solid results on day two of the Georgia Tech Invitational, hosted by the Yellow Jackets at Griffin Track, as Cydney Ross, Esther Vermeer and Chris Rowland led the Blue Devils in their respective events.
Ross clocked 55.42 in the women's 400m dash for the Devils' top time this season and the No. 3 all-time performance at Duke. The St. Louis, Mo., native's time trails only Janay McKie (54.44) and Courtney Botts (54.09) in the Devil records.
The women's team also received strong outings in the 800m run with Vermeer leading the way in 2:07.66, good for 10th place out in a field of 52 competitors. Leslie Morrison also finished in the top-20, clocking 2:10.12. Devotia Moore (2:10.75) in 22nd, Suejin Ahn (2:12.99) in 27th, Katie Apibunyopas (2:13.14) in 28th and Kate Van Buskirk (2:14.09 in 31st rounded out the Duke contingent.
On the men's side, Rowland turned in a 1:51.41 performance in the 800-meters to finish 13th overall, while Sean-Pat Oswald clocked 1:52.50, good for 26th place.
Duke will wrap up the weekend's event Sunday as the field athletes travel to nearby North Carolina A&T. All-ACC honorees Amy Fryt and Austin Gamble will be among the Blue Devils in action on Sunday.
