Nze Advances to NCAA Tournament Round of 16

ATHENS, Ga.-Duke University junior Ellah Nze added another win to her record to advance to the round of 16 in the NCAA Women's Tennis Individual Singles Tournament. Nze defeated Boise State's Pichittra Thongdach in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (4) to continue her season.
Nze and Thongdach traded shots throughout the opening set, but it was Nze coming through with the key break to win the first set 6-4. The second was much of the same as they remained on serve throughout. With Thongdach leading 5-4, 47th-ranked Nze captured two straight games to go in front 6-5. The Broncos No. 49 senior answered by evening the set 6-6 to send it to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Nze dominated, winning 7- 4 to earn overall win 6-4, 7-6.
Nze improves to 25-16 overall and advances to the round of 16 for the second consecutive season. She will take on 20th-ranked Nina Secerbegovic of Baylor who won in three sets over Danielle Lao of Southern California. The round of 16 will kick off on May 28.
