EUGENE, Ore. - Duke track and field freshman Juliet Bottorff finished 22nd in the women's 5,000m finals at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by the University of Oregon.
Bottorff posted a time of 16:38.26 in her first NCAA Championship appearance. The Newark, Del., native was one of two Duke freshmen, joining discus thrower Austin Gamble, to make the national championship meet. Bottorff placed eighth at the NCAA Eastern Preliminary Round to qualify for the event.
The Blue Devils sent six student-athletes to the 2010 Championships after three qualified in 2009. Gamble and Ryan McDermott both placed 20th in the discus and 3,000m steeplechase on day one, respectively, while Carly Seymour came in 22nd in the 10,000m. Day two saw Cory Nanni and Kate Van Buskirk both place 22nd in their respective 1,500m semifinals.
