Largest Crowd Since 1994
Duke's crowd of 39,042 was the
largest since Nov. 19, 1994 when the Blue Devils filled Wallace Wade Stadium
with 40,103 fans against North Carolina. Duke added 3,904 seats to its capacity
with temporary bleachers. The Blue Devils have reached capacity in each of its
two games this season after not reaching capacity since 2001.
Gamble Earns First Start, Brown
Collegiate Debut
Sophomore linebacker Austin Gamble earned his first collegiate start at linebacker. He
has played in 15 career games. True freshman linebacker Kelby Brown made his collegiate debut and finished with four
tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one fumble recovery.
Snead Leads Rushing Attack
True freshman Josh Snead had a career-high 14 carries for 83 yards,
including a long of 27 yards to lead the Blue Devils' rushing game. Duke
tallied 146 yards on the ground, the most allowed by the Crimson Tide defense in
three games this season. Snead recorded 187 all-purpose yards, the eighth
highest single game total by a freshman in school history.
Kelly Catches Touchdown Pass
Senior wide receiver Austin Kelly caught an 11-yard touchdown pass from Renfree for
his seventh career touchdown reception. It was his second touchdown grab of the
year and the first touchdown allowed by Alabama in 2010.
Varner Catches 100th Pass
Junior wide receiver Donovan Varner became the 13th player in school history with 100
or more receptions. He had seven catches to give him 106 career grabs. He also
climbed into 14th on Duke's career receiving yards list with his 55 yards on
Saturday, giving him 1,440 career yards.
Firsts For Duke Offensive Players
True freshman Brandon Connette threw his first collegiate pass and ended the game
2-of-4 for 12 yards. Redshirt sophomore wide receiver Tony Foster hauled in his first collegiate catch for 10 yards.
Forcing Turnovers
Duke has forced two turnovers in all three games this season after posting one
interception and one fumble recovery against Alabama. The Blue Devils now have
five interceptions on the year while the fumble recovery was the first of the
season.
Butler Snags First Interception of
Season
Junior safety Lee Butler intercepted a pass at the start of the second
quarter for his first interception of the season and second of his career. Duke
has tallied five interceptions in the three games this season after posting a
total of eight in 2009. His first career pick was at N.C. State last year.
Brown Makes Plays In Collegiate Debut
True freshman linebacker Kelby Brown played in his first collegiate game against Alabama
and recorded a sack and fumble recovery.
Two Sacks For Defense
Duke had two sacks from their defense. Sophomore linebacker Austin Gamble and Brown each tallied the first sack of their
collegiate career.
Snyderwine Makes Two Field Goals
Junior kicker Will Snyderwine made field goals of 22 and 42 yards to give him 23
career made attempts. He moved into sole possession of eighth on Duke's career
field goals list and has now made 23-of-27 (.852) career attempts.
Duke In the Red Zone
The Blue Devils entered the red
zone on two occasions and came away with points all three times with two field
goals and one touchdown. Duke has converted all 12 of its red zone
opportunities this season. Entering the game Alabama had stopped its opponents
on two of four red zone possessions to rank tied for seventh nationally in red
zone defense.
