
Carleton Nabs Fourth Title In Two Weeks

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Senior Reid Carleton added the UVA Ranked Plus One Invitational A-3 singles championship to his resume on Sunday with a win in three sets over No. 30 Jose Hernandez of North Carolina.
Carleton, ranked No. 45 in the ITA preseason singles rankings, has played in two tournaments this fall and has won both the singles and doubles titles each weekend to give him four overall championships this year. He has not lost a match this season, posting an 8-0 record in singles and 6-0 mark in doubles.
This weekend in Charlottesville, Va., Carleton downed three ranked opponents. He earned straight-set victories over No. 85 Joey Burkhardt (North Carolina) and No. 21 Rhyne Williams (Tennessee) before his win over Hernandez on Sunday. Carleton won the first set 6-2 but Hernandez fought back to take the second 6-1. In the third set it was all Carleton as he cruised to the finish with a 6-2 victory.
Do to inclement weather forcing play indoors, only the finals and the consolation finals matches were played on Sunday.
The Duke men's tennis team will be off until Oct. 2 when the ITA/D'Novo All-American Championships prequalifying begins in Tulsa, Okla.
