Duke Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie“That first half I thought give credit to NC State. They shot 52%, they played well and they found each other. I like to give credit to teams, I thought NC State played a terrific basketball game and played with a lot of heart throughout. Sometimes games go that way. The outcome only goes one way, but I thought it was a good basketball game.”
On what was said at halftime: “Words, a lot of words about who we (Duke) are, what we do, and how we play. I'd like to highlight
Shay Selby and
Kathleen Scheer. Our juniors decided they were seniors, they really made the difference tonight.”
“It was a great basketball game, and it could have gone either way, as you know. If they (N.C. State) could play that way every game – wow!”
N.C. State Head Coach Kellie HarperOn the loss:“We're broken hearted and disappointed. I thought in the second half we weren't poised enough. The press really bothered us in the second half. We had done a much better job of stopping them in the first half. The tempo in the second half went completely their way.”
On losing a 20-point lead:“When you get a lead like that, you start playing so as not to lose and you can't do that. You've got to have confidence in how you played the first 20 minutes and realize that you can do it again. That's the making of a winning team.”
On where they will go from here:“I think we have to find a way to pick them (players) back up. This one was a tough one; we lost on the press offense and down the stretch. We didn't have the fight that we needed. They got really physical with us.”
On why she didn't call a final time-out: “We didn't want to call a time out because I felt like they'd (Duke) been stopping us in a full court and didn't feel that we'd be able to get all the way down there and score.”
