DURHAM, N.C. - Former Duke Blue Devil
Jim Gallagher has been added to the U.S. Pan American Baseball Team roster, USA Baseball announced on Tuesday.
Team USA is in Lagos de Moreno, Mexico, to compete in the Pan American Games. Gallagher will join Team USA on Wednesday.
A seventh round pick of the Chicago White Sox in 2007, Gallagher was the starting first baseman for the Charlotte Knights last season and hit .246 with a team-leading 39 doubles and 62 walks in his first full season at Triple-A. He ranked second in the International League in doubles and seventh in walks.
Gallagher played for Duke from 2005-07, finishing his career with a .310 batting average (164-for-529), which ranks as the 26th-highest in school history. His 20 doubles in 2007 rank as the fourth-highest total in a single season at Duke, while his .461 on base percentage that same year ranks as the ninth-highest in school history. In 2006 and 2007, Gallagher led the team in doubles, runs scored, walks and stolen bases.
Gallagher now joins current Blue Devil
Marcus Stroman (Collegiate National Team) as 2011 USA Baseball alumni.
