DURHAM, N.C. - Duke junior guard Seth Curry has been selected as a candidate for the 2011-12 Bob Cousy Award, as announced by The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame on Tuesday.
The annual honor, named for Hall of Famer and former Boston Celtic Bob Cousy, recognizes the top point guards in college basketball. Curry is one of 59 candidates that have been nominated for the 2012 Bob Cousy Award.
A 6-2 guard who moved to the point this season, Curry averages 12.6 points and 3.3 assists per game while also leading the ACC in free throw percentage. He has a 1.4:1 assist-to-turnover ratio, is hitting 45.0 percent of his three-pointers and directs a Duke offense that has five players averaging at least 10 points per game.
Originally a transfer from Liberty University where he played his freshman season, Curry is one of the top three-point shooters in Duke history. He has hit 43.9 percent of his shots from beyond the arc to rank second on Duke's career three-point field goal percentage list behind only Christian Laettner (48.5).
Previous winners of the Bob Cousy Award include Jameer Nelson (St. Joseph's), Raymond Felton (North Carolina), Dee Brown (Illinois), Acie Law (Texas A & M), DJ Augustin (Texas), Ty Lawson (North Carolina), Greivis Vasquez (Maryland) and last year's recipient Kemba Walker (Connecticut).
