Upcoming Event: Track & Field versus Duke Twilight on May 3, 2026

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Day two of the ACC Champions concluded with numerous athletes qualifying for Saturday's finals and three walking out with All-ACC honors.
High jumpers got things started as freshmen duo Tanner Anderson and Michael Krone went up against the best in the conference. Both jumpers cleared 6'10.75” with Anderson taking fifth after having one fewer miss than Krone, who captured the sixth spot.
Senior Amy Fryt took to the runway to receive All-ACC honors with her second place in the women's pole vault. She cleared 13'7.25” but passed the next height and jumped to 13'11.25”. Mike Schallmo threw 57'11.5” to take eighth place in the weight throw and pick up a point for the men's team.
Finishing off day two of the heptathlon, Curtis Beach took home a silver medal. He picked up an impressive 979 points in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:30.78. His score of 5816 currently ranks him second in the nation, behind only Clemson's Miller Moss. He also competed in the men's long jump. He picked up a point with a leap of 23'5.5”
Action on the track kicked off at 2 p.m. with the women's mile. Senior Kate Van Buskirk won her heat with freshman Rebecca Craigie following close behind to both automatically qualify for finals. Transfer senior Kristina Krasich took fourth in her heat and was able to qualify for finals based on time ran.
Immediately following the women, Senior Ryan McDermott made it into the men's mile finals by winning his heat as well. The next athletes to make Saturday's finals were Devotia Moore and Cydney Ross in the women's 800 meters. Both runners also won their heat with the third and sixth fastest time of the day.
The men's and women's 5,000 meters, which held its finals today, saw great success for Duke athletes. Senior Bo Waggoner took fourth overall with a time of 14:12.62. On the women's side, Sophomore Juliet Bottorff made her way to the medal stand with a second place finish. Her time of 16:10.38 was less than a second behind Anna Nosenko of Wake Forest but over 20 seconds ahead of the third place finisher. Junior Mary-Carleton Johnston netted a point for the Blue Devils with an eighth place finish, at 16:52.65, while graduate student Laura Paulsen was just outside of scoring position in ninth.
Duke closed out the day with the running of their DMR's. The team of Domenick Dematteo, Ben Raskin, Stephen Clark and Josh Lund took sixth for the men with a time of 9:49.19. The women captured fourth place thanks to the efforts of Gabby Levac, Brittany Whitehead, Katie Apibunyopas and Esther Vermeer's 11:25.05.
The women currently sit in sixth place with 22 points and the men are in fourth with 25. The championships will conclude tomorrow with the finals of the running and remaining field events.
