DURHAM, N.C. - Duke senior guard Nolan Smith was announced as one of five finalists for the 2011 Bob Cousy Award which is given annually to the nation's top point guard.
Smith is joined in the final five by Norris Cole of Cleveland State, Jimmer Fredette of BYU, Jordan Taylor of Wisconsin and Kemba Walker of Connecticut.
The 2011 ACC Player of the Year, Smith led the conference in scoring with 21.6 points per game. He was the only unanimous selection to the All-ACC first team and was also named to the ACC All-Defensive team as well. His 18 games with 20 or more points is six more than any other ACC player and includes a league-high four 30-point contests. He is one of only three players in the NCAA this season who is averaging over 20.0 points and 5.0 assists per game.
The five finalists have emerged from an original list of 70 candidates. The winner of the 2011 Bob Cousy Award will be announced on April 1 with the award presentation coming during the NCAA Final Four weekend.
