BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Duke University junior
Libby Jandl and her Kansas City Dynamos U23 soccer team advanced to the championship game of the USASA Nationals on Sunday before falling in penalty kicks to the Eagles SC.
The Dynamos held a 1-0 lead and 2-1 advantage late but the Eagles scored with 30 seconds remaining in double-overtime to send the match to penalty kicks. The Eagles ended the contest in penalty kicks winning 4-2.
Jandl, who is a native of Mission Hills, Kan., started 22-of-23 matches a year ago and collected a team-high 1,956 minutes played for the Blue Devils. She helped guide Duke to 10 shutouts on the season.
Two Blue Devil incoming freshmen also played over the weekend in the Elite Clubs National League Championships as
Katy Colas of Bethesda SC and
Tabria Williford of Lonestar SC were in action.
Colas, who is a product of Vienna, Va., scored the tying goal to send the match against SC Del Sol to penalty kicks before her Bethesda squad advanced with the win. Colas and Bethesda then downed Williford and her Lonestar team, 1-0, to advance to the finals. Bethesda's run ended with a 6-1 loss to KCFC.
A native of Boerne, Texas, Williford's Lonestar SC squad opened the weekend with a 3-2 win over the Ohio Premier Eagles, before falling to Bethesda. In the consolation match, Lonestar fell, 4-1, to the Eclipse Select Soccer Club.
