HENDERSON, N.C. - Six members of the Duke football team spent their Wednesday afternoon visiting kids at Camp Kaleidoscope located in Henderson, N.C.
Camp Kaleidoscope is a summer camp run by the Duke Children's Hospital for kids with serious illnesses who can't attend regular summer camps. Since the camp started in 1979 more than 1,000 children and teens with chronic and terminal illnesses have attended the camp. The camp counselors and staff is made up of physicians, nurses, physician associates, social workers, development staff, child life specialists, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, medical students, and hospital volunteers from the Duke hospital.
The camp lasts three weeks with three different age groups spending a week at a time. Activities at the camp include swimming, sports, arts and crafts and visits from special guests such as the Duke football team.
The six players who went this year included Will Bryant (NG), Dave Harding (OG), Curtis Hazelton, William Johnston (WR), Preston Scott (WR) and Josh Trezvant (WR). The players sat at the dock and visited with kids during the time for swimming and then joined in for a water gun, water balloon and shaving cream fight.
