Cobb Named TopDrawerSoccer Player of the Week

DURHAM, N.C. - Coming off scoring two goals and assisting on four other tallies over the weekend for the sixth-ranked Duke women's soccer team, Duke standout freshman Kelly Cobb was named the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Player of the Week on Monday.
A native of Chugiak, Alaska, Cobb had a monster game on Friday to help lead the Blue Devils to a 7-2 thrashing of national power Texas A&M. In the match, Cobb posted two goals and three assists. She registered Duke's first goal in the 12th minute as she took a pass and beat the A&M goalkeeper one-v-one. The 5-9 forward then assisted on Duke's game-winning goal by Mollie Pathman to put the Blue Devils ahead, 3-2, for good.
Cobb added another assist on the Blue Devils' fourth goal and then notched her fifth goal in the last five matches in the 66th minute, unassisted.
With Cobb's seven points on the night against the Aggies, she matched a Duke single-game record. The seven points was also a Duke freshmen record, while her three assists also tied a Blue Devil freshmen record.
In Sunday's game against UNC Greensboro, Cobb assisted on Duke's second goal of the match as she fed defender Erin Koballa for her first career goal. The Blue Devils went on to register a 2-0 victory. Since being inserted into Duke's starting lineup, the Blue Devils have scored 15 goals in six matches.

Duke will close nonconference action on Thursday, Sept. 15 with a home contest against College of Charleston at 7:00 p.m.
