DURHAM, N.C. - Freshman guard Austin Rivers was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the ACC-leading fourth time this season, ACC officials announced on Monday.
Rivers averaged 19.5 points per game in Duke's two conference matchups last week, scoring 20 points in a 91-73 win over Wake Forest and 19 in a 76-73 last-second loss to Florida State. Against Wake Forest, he hit 3-of-4 three-pointers on the way to his team-leading fourth 20-point game of the year. He followed by scoring a team-high 19 points against Florida State, including a game-tying layup with under five seconds remaining in the game. Rivers was 13-of-27 (.481) from the floor, 5-of-9 (.556) from three-point range and 8-of-10 (.800) from the foul line for the week.
Rivers leads ACC freshmen with 14.4 points per game on the season while shooting .400 from the three-point line. He also leads ACC freshman with 30.1 minutes per game and has led Duke in scoring a team-high eight times.
A Duke player has won six of the 11 ACC Rookie of the Week awards this season with point guard Quinn Cook bringing in the other two. The only other ACC school with multiple Rookie of the Week awards is Boston College, which has two.
