DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke football team returns home Saturday, October 6, to face the Virginia Cavaliers. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with redshirt senior defensive end Kenny Anunike to learn more about Galena, Ohio native.
GoDuke.com: What has been your proudest moment at Duke?
Kenny Anunike: I would say my first college sack on former No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft Andrew Luck, during the Stanford game a year ago. I sacked him twice so that was pretty cool.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite part of being a Duke student-athlete?
KA: I would say the prestige that comes with it. It's not easy being a Duke student-athlete, at this school you are a student before an athlete. It's a pretty tough school and there is an honor that comes with it. I think it's a blessing.
GoDuke.com: What has been your most challenging class at Duke?
KA: I would say Biology 102. That class was tough. Bio and math are not a joke at this school.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite spot on campus?
KA: I would say OSAF (Office of Student Activity and Facilities) in the Bryan Center. It has computers, TVs and couches. I can just go in there after practice and relax.
GoDuke.com: Tell us about a time when you first started playing your sport.
KA: I first started in seventh grade at Worthington. I think I was No. 75. I was the right offensive tackle. I had a bar through my face mask. I was hefty set, had not fully grown into my body. That's where I first gained my love for the game.
GoDuke.com: Who has been the biggest influence on your life?
KA: Both of my parents, with their combination of expertise. My dad helps with his expertise in how to become a man and my mom's spiritual background in trusting everything to the Lord. Those two things created me and who I am today.
GoDuke.com: Do you have any hidden talents?
KA: I can play the drums. I also like racing little gas powered RC cars.
GoDuke.com: What is one possession you can't live without?
KA: My cell phone. It is literally attached to my hip.
GoDuke.com: What kind of music do you have on your iPod?
KA: I have a whole lot of stuff. I listen to a lot of gospel rap, like Lecrae and Trip Lee. I also have a lot of R&B and just regular rap too.
GoDuke.com: Mountains or Beach?
KA: Beach, for sure. The mountains are cold. I just want to relax when I go to the beach.
