DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke men's basketball team will travel to East Rutherford, N.J., to face Temple on Saturday, December 8. Tip-off is set for 3:15 p.m., and will be aired live on ESPN. Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior forward Mason Plumlee to learn more about the Warsaw, Ind., native.
GoDuke.com: What has been your proudest moment at Duke?
Mason Plumlee: When my brother took me out for senior night. When he got introduced, I walked out to center court with him.
GoDuke.com: What is your favorite part of being a Duke student-athlete?
MP: The people, the teachers, the coaches. They are year around, great people doing great things in the academic world and in the basketball world.
GoDuke.com: What's your favorite class that you've taken here?
MP: My favorite class would have to be, Marketing and Cross Borders with George Grody.
GoDuke.com: What's been your most challenging class?
MP: My most challenging class would be probably BioBasics of Behavior. It was a neuroscience type class. It was a neuroscience prerequisite.
GoDuke.com: Can you tell me about a time when you first started playing basketball?
MP: When I was younger, my grandparents had a hoop in their drive way in West Lafayette, Indiana and we'd go there and play.
GoDuke.com: Who would you say has been the biggest influence on your life?
MP: The biggest influence is usually my parents. I mean you live with them and you're around them all the time. Even when I went to boarding school they came down and visited a lot and we've always had constant contact throughout high school and college. Both my parents have been influential.
GoDuke.com: Do you have any kind of chore that you hate doing?
MP: My least favorite thing to do would be laundry.
GoDuke.com: Any words of wisdom to pass along to freshmen or future Blue Devils?
MP: Just enjoy it because it goes by fast.
GoDuke.com: Any hidden talents?
MP: I don't really have any hidden talents. I'm a good Othello player.
GoDuke.com: If you could play any sport other than your own, what would it be?
MP: Swimming. That's what I did for probably seven or eight years while I played basketball, but then you have to make a decision because they're in the same season. I swam from when I was really young to about seventh grade.
GoDuke.com: Is there a particular basketball player you looked up to or admired when you were little?
MP: There wasn't really anyone in particular. The first NBA games I remember watching were like the finals between the Bulls and the Jazz. Those were the first games that I watched and I was like that is what I want to do.
GoDuke.com: Mountains or beach?
MP: Mountains. I went to high school in the mountains and there was actually a lot to do in the mountains. The beach you know you go to the beach and there's too many tourists. The mountains are a little more secluded, a little better get away.
