Johnston and Bryant Take Silver at FINA World Series

BEIJING - The FINA Diving World Series continues this weekend with the second leg of the invitation-only competition taking divers Abby Johnston and Nick McCrory to the Water Cube in Beijing.

After qualifying the United States to the 2012 Olympic Games in the women's 3-meter synchronized event at last month's FINA World Cup in London, Johnston and Kelci Bryant of Minnesota returned to the 3-meter boards Friday in Beijing. Johnston and Bryant scored 306.30 points to tie Canada's Jennifer Abel and Emilie Heymans for second place. In the tiebreaker dive, Team USA earned a score of 71.10 to edge Canada for the silver medal. He Zi and Wu Minxia of China claimed the gold with 347.70 points, while Abel and Heymans took the bronze.

Johnston and Bryant's silver medal marks the third medal won by U.S. divers so far during the 2012 FINA Diving World Series.

Friday's action in Beijing also saw McCrory and Purdue's David Boudia compete in the men's 10-meter synchronized event. McCrory and Boudia collected a score of 417.81 points in the final to finish sixth, matching their sixth-place finish on the platform in Dubai one week ago. China's Cao Yuan and Zhang Yanquan won the 10-meter synchro competition with 480.18 points, followed by Tom Daley and Peter Waterfield of Great Britain in second (437.40) and Patrick Hausding and Sascha Klein of Germany in third (431.64).

The Beijing leg of the FINA Diving World Series concludes Saturday. The series continues next month with stops in Russia and Mexico.
