DURHAM, N.C.— The Duke women's golf program currently has four former Blue Devils who are currently competing on the LPGA Tour – Amanda Blumenherst, Brittany Lang, Jennie Lee and Anna Grzebien. Here is an update on how each of the Duke golfers are doing on the tour through six events of the 2012 campaign.
Amanda Blumenherst
Blumenherst, a three-time National Player of the Year at Duke, is starting her third year on the tour and is currently ranked 89th in the latest Golfweek LPGA tour rankings. The Duke grad has played in 22 rounds in six events, placing in four, since the start of 2012. Blumenherst notched her first top-10 finish of the 2012 season at the Honda LPGA Thailand where she shot 71-67-71-69 for a 10-under par finish. Other notable finishes included the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open (T-61), HSBC Women's Champions (T-31), Kia Classic (T-65), and the Kraft Nabisco Championship (T-70). Her 2012 earnings of $70,457.00 currently ranks 34th on the LPGA Money list.
Blumenherst, a Fort Wayne native, is also hosting the Mad Anthony's Charity Classic for Children scheduled for June 17-18 at the Fort Wayne's Sycamore Hills Golf Club. “It's so exciting,” said Blumenherst. “I especially hope to, in the long run, help make this a full-field LPGA event and have it get even bigger. And, also, to have this be part of a charity; it's exciting to be part of that.”
Brittany Lang
Lang, who won six titles in two-years at Duke, including two Atlantic Coast Conference championships, is starting her seventh year on the tour. She has played and placed in six tournaments since the start of the 2012 season. She fired a 2-over par 290 at the Kia Classic from March 22-25; including a season-low 69 in the third round of action to finish tied for 20th place. Other notable finishes included the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open (T-40), HSBC Women's Champions (T-49), RR Donnelley LPGA Founders Cup, where she fired a season-low round of 69 to finish tied for 58th, and the Kraft Nabisco Championship (T-26). She has collected 71 birdies in 24 official rounds, while boasting one of the strongest drives in the game, averaging 260.0 yards per driving, ranking No. 20 on the tour. On the 2012 LPGA Money List, she currently ranks 39th with $60,329.00 earnings.
Jennie Lee
Lee, a member of the two NCAA Women's Golf Championships in 2006 and 2007, has appeared in three events thus far in the 2012 season without making the cut. Anna Grzebien
Grzebien, who won the NCAA Individual Championship in 2005, is now in her fourth season on the LPGA tour. She has played in one event so far this season, the Kia Classic, but missed the cut. She earned $5,632 on the season. Her best finish came at the 2011 Tate & Lyle Players Championship in Decatur, Ill., where she placed 11th. The Futures Tour has only hosted one event for the 2012 season thus far, and Whitaker did not participate. She looks to get her season off right at two upcoming events in April: Sara Bay Classic at the Sara Bay Country Club in Sarasota Fla., and the Riviera Nayarit Classic at the El Tigre Golf and Country Club in Mexico.
