DURHAM, N.C. - For the second straight week, Duke freshman Beatrice Capra was named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Women's Tennis Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the conference office. Receiving the accolade for the fourth time this season, Capra shared this week's honor with North Carolina's Lauren McHale.
Capra, the nation's second-ranked player, led the third-ranked Blue Devils by defeating 55th-ranked Keri Wong, 6-2, 6-4, Friday evening, en route to Duke's 6-1 win over 23rd-ranked Clemson. The newcomer followed up with a resilient 6-0, 2-6, 6-0 victory over 17th-ranked Jillian O'Neill, as Duke shut out 24th-ranked Georgia Tech, 7-0, Sunday afternoon. The Ellicott City, Md., native improved her record to 20-3 overall, 14-1 in dual singles matches and 12-3 against ranked opponents this season, while increasing her winning streak to eight straight matches.
The third-ranked Blue Devils will return home for the first of their final five ACC matches of the season, beginning with fifth-ranked Miami on Friday, Apr. 6 at 3 p.m. Duke will then host Florida State on Saturday, Apr. 7 at 11 a.m. Both matches are scheduled to be played at the Ambler Tennis Stadium.
