Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award

DURHAM, N.C. - For the sixth straight year, the Duke volleyball team received the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for maintaining a team grade point average of least 3.30 for the entire 2011-12 academic year.
With this year's recognition, the Blue Devils have now earned the academic honor every year since 2006-07 and eight times over the past nine seasons.
Seniors Kellie Catanach, Amanda Robertson and Sophia Dunworth joined junior Christiana Gray and sophomore Ali McCurdy in All-ACC Academic Team honors this past year. Duke's five selections led the ACC as the Blue Devils have placed at least four players on the academic squad every year since the award's inception in 2006.
First instituted in 1992, the AVCA Team Academic Award goes to collegiate and high school volleyball programs that maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.30 for the academic year. Duke also received the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2003-04 and 2004-05 academic years.
Duke was one of 102 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball programs to receive the honor this season and one of an AVCA-record 533 teams overall. The 533 awards were the most in the 19-year history of the AVCA Team Academic Award.
