Bruce Undergoes Successful Foot Surgery

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke sophomore defensive tackle Jamal Bruce underwent successful foot surgery on Tuesday to repair a stress fracture of the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot. No timetable for his return to action has been set.
"Obviously, we're disappointed with this setback for Jamal," said Duke head coach David Cutcliffe. "He showed improvement and productivity during spring practice, and his presence on the interior of our line will be temporarily missed."
The surgery was performed by Dr. James Nunley, the Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery at Duke University.
Listed as a starter entering the 2012 season, Bruce, a 6-1, 285-pound native of LaGrange, Ga., appeared in all 12 games last year as a reserve, totaling five tackles. He was honored with the program's Most Improved Defensive Player award following spring practice.
