Duke Divers Recap Olympic Journey

DURHAM, N.C. - It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks for Duke Olympians Abby Johnston, Nick McCrory and Drew Johansen. An integral part of USA Diving's overwhelming success at the 2012 London Olympic Games, the three members of the Duke Swimming & Diving program returned home Monday tired but ready to celebrate their accomplishments.

As members of Team USA, Johnston and McCrory snapped a 12-year medal drought for the United States in Olympic diving. The opening diving event of the Games on July 29 saw Johnston and Kelci Bryant capture the silver in the women's synchronized 3-meter event, while McCrory and David Boudia took bronze in the men's synchronized 10-meter platform competition just one day later. The following week, McCrory advanced to the finals of the men's individual 10-meter platform event and finished ninth overall. His synchronized diving partner, Boudia, won the platform gold in dramatic fashion to bring Team USA's medal count to four.

Guiding Johnston, McCrory and the other divers throughout the competition was Duke diving coach Johansen, who was named the head coach of Team USA for the Olympic Games.

Johnston, McCrory and Johansen caught up with GoDuke.com Monday upon their return from London to reflect on what the Olympic experience meant to them.
