DURHAM, N.C. -- During the pre-game festivities and throughout Duke's season-opening football game on September 1 in Wallace Wade Stadium, the Duke Heart Center and Duke Women's Health Initiative will host a CPR training tent on the main concourse to teach compression-only CPR.
New American Heart Association research has prompted new CPR guidelines that recommend compression-only CPR instead of the old practice of compressions with mouth-to-mouth "rescue" breathing.
Sudden cardiac death is a leading cause of death across the nation, and rates of bystander-provided CPR are particularly low in North Carolina. You can help raise the rate of bystander CPR by learning how to recognize sudden cardiac arrest and provide appropriate care. The tent will be open throughout the game; training takes less than 15 minutes. For more information about learning compression-only CPR, please call 888-ASK-DUKE.
Faculty and staff can request up to four free tickets for the game, which starts at 7 p.m. Last year, nearly 10,000 employees and their friends and family attended as part of the annual Duke Employee Kickoff Celebration. Tickets can be reserved online at goduke.com/employee or by calling (919) 681-8738. A DukeCard is required to pick up tickets on game day.
