LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Duke men's cross country team sent four competitors to the 2014 NCAA Southeast Regional Championship in Louisville, Ky., Friday afternoon. The 10-kilometer contest was held at the E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park.
Duke was represented at this season's regional championship by seniors Phil Fairleigh and Brian Schoepfer and juniors Blake Udland and William Hague.
For the fourth time this season, Udland led the Blue Devils, crossing the finish line in 56th place with a 10K time of 31:29.4. Friday's contest marked Udland's fifth start for Duke this year. The Short Hills, N.J., native moved through the field following the 3K mark, improving on his position by 15 places over the final 7K.
Similar to Udland, Fairleigh also advanced his position as the race progressed, passing the 3K mark in 94th place before finishing 67th overall. Fairleigh clocked a time of 31:45.1 in his first career regional championship.
Schoepfer, finishing two seconds behind Fairleigh, also turned in a top-75 finish by placing 70th overall in a time of 31:47.1.
Hague rounded out the Duke contingent Friday, placing 100th overall with a time of 32:18.0. Hague served as Duke's top finisher at the conference championship.
