DURHAM, N.C. – With more than one week remaining before the 81st annual Hyundai Sun Bowl, the Duke Athletics Ticket Office has sold more than 4,000 tickets out of its allotment for the contest. This will be the Blue Devils' third straight bowl appearance, a first in program history.
Blue Devil fans unable to travel to El Paso displayed their support for both Duke and the Hyundai Sun Bowl by purchasing tickets, ensuring the school's allotted seats will be filled with spectators wearing Duke blue. Through ticket donations, more than 1,500 area military members will be able to watch the Blue Devils take on No. 15 Arizona State on Dec. 27.
“The city of El Paso and Sun Bowl Association are thrilled we have been able to work with the community to give local residents a great game day experience and a taste of Blue Devil football,” Duke's Director of Football Marketing and Promotions Chris Alston said. “The partnership with El Paso and the Sun Bowl Association has been wonderful and we appreciate their support in return.”
The Hyundai Sun Bowl is the second oldest bowl game in college football history. Since the first Sun Bowl played on January 1, 1935, as a fundraising event for a local service club, the game has grown into El Paso's number one national attraction.
This year's Hyundai Sun Bowl will kick off at 2 p.m. ET Dec. 27 on CBS.
