GLEN COVE, N.Y. – Both Duke University golfers
Celine Boutier and
Alejandra Cangrejo each advanced to the 2014 U.S. Women's Amateur match play following 36-hole stroke play qualifying at the Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, N.Y.
Boutier, a junior from Montrouge, France, turned in rounds of 70 and 70 Monday and Tuesday on her way to placing tied fourth with a 140. The reigning WGCA National Player of the Year carded five birdies over the 36 holes.
A 2014 Duke graduate, Cangrejo totaled rounds of 73 and 71 as she tied for 21st overall with a 144. A product of Bogota, Colombia, rolled in three birdies in her two stroke play rounds.
Bethany Wu earned medalist honors with rounds of 69 and 68 for a 137 ledger. Match play brackets will be released later Tuesday evening.
The Golf Channel will air the match play portion of the championship Aug. 6-10 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Schedule of play will be first round Aug. 6, second and third rounds Aug. 7, quarterfinals Aug. 8, semifinal Aug. 9 and a 36-hole championship match Aug. 10.
Duke features two past U.S. Amateur winners in Amanda Blumenherst (2008) and Virada Nirapathpongporn (2003).
