PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. -- The Duke women's tennis team's 19th-ranked doubles pair of senior Ester Goldfeld and sophomore Alyssa Smith represented Duke in the doubles qualifying draw of the 2014 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships Tuesday in Pacific Palisades, Calif., playing alongside one another for the first time this fall.
In the opening round match, Goldfeld and Smith fell to San Jose State's team of Marie Klocker and Gaelle Rey, 7-5, 6-2. With the loss, the Duke duo now owns a career record of 11-9, including an 0-1 mark in fall play.
Goldfeld is scheduled to compete in the main draw of the singles tournament, which begins Thursday, Oct. 2.
