
Duke Wins Two More At ITA All-American Championship

TULSA, Okla. – Duke's participation at the ITA Men's All-American Championships kicked into high gear Tuesday with the second round of the qualifying singles and first round of qualifying doubles. The Blue Devils had three competing in singles, who went a combined 2-1, and two doubles pairs playing during the day, going 0-2.
Freshman Nicolas Alvarez began the day for Duke, taking on Ole Miss' Stefan Lindmark. Alvarez won 6-4, 7-5 and advanced to the third round of singles. Alvarez will play Wichita State's Tin Ostojic Wednesday around 11 a.m. ET.
After dropping the first set, junior Bruno Semenzato came back to down N.C. State's Nick Horton 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-0 to move to the third round Wednesday. Semenzato takes on Miami's Piotr Lomacki in the third round at approximately 11 a.m.
Senior Raphael Hemmeler was the final Duke singles player in the second round of qualifying singles Tuesday and he fell to Georgia's Nick Wood 6-2, 6-2.
Redshirt senior Chris Mengel took part in the qualifying singles consolation round and forced a decisive third set before suffering a 7-5, 6-7 (0), 6-4 setback to Mississippi State's Julian Cash.
For the Duke doubles, Mengel teamed with senior Jason Tahir and fell 6-2, 6-4 to Mississippi State's Cash and Florian Lakat. Hemmeler and redshirt senior Cale Hammond lost to Ole Miss' Lindmark and Gustav Hansson 6-3, 6-3.
