DURHAM, N.C. – Duke redshirt senior safety Jeremy Cash and senior kicker Ross Martin were named to the NFL.com/CFB247 Midseason All-America squad Wednesday. Duke was one of seven programs with two or more honorees, joining Baylor, Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, TCU and Texas A&M.
Cash has been the most decorated Blue Devil this year, garnering Athlon Sports, CBS Sports, ESPN, Lindy's, Phil Steele, Sports Illustrated, Sporting News, and USA Today Preseason All-America accolades. Already this season, Cash has been named the FWAA National Defensive Player of the Week, Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week, Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week, Lott IMPACT Trophy Player of the Week and Jim Thorpe Award Player of the Week.
The 6-2, 210-pound Miami native has helped Duke to a 5-1 record by leading the team with 11.5 tackles for lost yardage, seven quarterback pressures, three forced fumbles and 1.5 sacks. Cash's 11.5 TFL and 1.92 per game average are tied for the fifth most in the country while his trio of caused fumbles are tied for the fifth most.
Martin took over the Duke career record for field goals made this season and is the lone kicker in the country with 10 or more made kicks without a miss. The two-time Lou Groza Star of the Week is a perfect 12-for-12 on field goals and 19-for-19 in points after touchdowns this year. His 12 made field goals are tied for third most nationally.
Against Boston College, Martin led Duke to a 9-7 victory with a trio of field goals, including a 53-yarder to tie his career long. The make is tied for the fifth longest field goal in the country this season. Martin, a 5-10, 185-pound product of Solon, Ohio, ranks second among active kickers in career points (365) and field goals (64), and was a Sports Illustrated All-America selection in 2012 and 2014.
Duke (5-1, 2-0 ACC), ranked No. 25 in this week's Associated Press poll, is open Saturday. The Blue Devils travel to Virginia Tech for a 3:30 p.m. showdown on ESPNU with the Hokies on Oct. 24.
