
Chamdani Advances to Main Draw Round of 16

CARY, N.C. – The Duke men's tennis team fought through a tough Saturday at the Cary Tennis Park with freshman Adrian Chamdani highlighting the performances with a singles victory to advance to the main draw Round of 16. The Blue Devils played one round of singles Saturday and two rounds of doubles.
In singles, Duke sent a trio of players into the main draw Round of 32, but Chamdani recorded the squad's only victory with a 7-6 (4), 6-3 triumph against Henry Patten of UNC Asheville. Chamdani takes on North Carolina's Robert Kelly, the No. 5 seed in the draw, at 10 a.m. Sunday. Chamdani upped his overall record this fall to 6-3 with the triumph.
Also in the singles main draw on Saturday, junior TJ Pura dropped a 7-6 (2), 6-3 decision to N.C. State's Nick Horton, who was the No. 13 seed in the draw. Senior Josh Levine fell victim to Kelly in the Round of 32 as Kelly earned a 6-1, 6-1 triumph.
In the singles consolation bracket, freshman Ryan Dickerson was downed by USC Upstate's Ramon Simonetti, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, while classmate Vincent Lin lost 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 to Coastal Carolina's Pedro Leme.
In doubles, the pair of Dickerson and Lin were the No. 6 seed in the draw and earned the Blue Devils' only main draw victory with a 6-1, 6-1 decision against N.C. A&T's Brett Caban and Kyle Scott. In the Round of 32, Dickerson and Lin earned another victory, coasting past Winthrop's Michael Chen and Ruy Teixeira, 6-1, 6-3.
Levine and senior Daniel McCall paired for the doubles action and suffered a 6-4, 6-3 setback to Wake Forest's Romain Bogaerts and Maksim Kan, the No. 8 seed in the draw. Also dropping main draw decisions were Chamdani and Pura, who fell 6-2, 6-4 to South Carolina's Yancy Dennis and Sam Swank, and sophomore Andrew DeJoy and freshman Jason Lapidus, who were downed 6-4, 6-1 by Presbyterian's Ben Kelley and Joel Roberts.
In the consolation bracket of doubles, Duke went 2-1 as Levine and McCall defeated Josh Hublitz and Andres Torres of UNC Wilmington, 6-2, 6-2. Chamdani and Pura bounced back with a 6-1, 6-1 victory against N.C. A&T's Dre Jarmon and Josh Wilson. Bowing out of the tournament were DeJoy and Lapidus, who fell to Brent Lett and Arturo Pinazo of Clemson, 6-2, 6-3.
