DURHAM, N.C. – Duke's duo of redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing and senior midfielder Aileen Johnson were selected for All-America honors by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, as announced Monday. Blazing was recognized with first team accolades while Johnson earned a spot on the second team.
The Blue Devils featured multiple All-America selections for the third consecutive season, and the ACC placed a nation-high 16 players across the three squads.
Blazing received All-America distinction for the third consecutive season while making her first appearance on the first team. A four-year starter in the cage, she guided Duke to a 14-7 ledger and the program's sixth NCAA semifinal trip this fall. She paced the ACC and ranked eighth in the country in save percentage (.778) for the season and was third in the league in saves per game (5.00). The Durham, N.C., native also registered a 1.39 goals against average while anchoring the back line to four shutouts.
Blazing was also selected for first team All-ACC and NFHCA All-South Region honors in her final year.
Johnson collected second team laurels for the second-straight season after captaining the Blue Devils from the midfield. She ranked second on the team in assists (8) and was third in points (12) during Duke's run to the NCAA semifinals. Johnson's career-high eight assists placed her among the top 20 players in program history with 19 over her four seasons.
The Oceanport, N.J., native joined Blazing on the All-ACC and All-South Region first teams this fall.
Under the direction of head coach Pam Bustin, Duke reached the national semifinals for the second time in the last three seasons. The Blue Devils were ranked sixth in the final NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll of the year.
