Blue Devils to Compete in 2015 Cancun Challenge

DURHAM, N.C.- The Duke women's basketball program will play in the 2015 Women's Cancun Challenge, which was announced this week. The challenge will feature a 10-team field and will be held at the all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya near Cancun, Mexico.
Along with the Blue Devils in the field are Georgia Tech, High Point, Idaho, Iowa State, NC State, Northern Iowa, Seton Hall, Texas State and UAB. The games will be played Nov. 26-28, 2015. Duke will be a part of the Mayan Division with Idaho, Iowa State and Texas Tech and will compete in a three-game round-robin schedule.
“We're pleased to announce another outstanding field in 2015 with all games being played at the beautiful, all-inclusive Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya,” said women's Cancun Challenge director Renee Carlson. “This is a special event for teams and fans and is played in an incredible ocean-front setting in Mexico. Fans making the trip down to cheer on their school will be able to watch great competition while enjoying the warm climate and beautiful beaches of the Riviera Maya.”
Duke will be making its third appearance in the Cancun Challenge as the Blue Devils also played in the 2006 and 2009 events. The Blue Devils have compiled a 5-0 all-time record, while totaling wins against Western Kentucky and Marquette in 2009 and Bowling Green, SMU and Pitt in 2006.
The Cancun Challenge is one of the premier basketball events held each year and was rated as a top-five preseason tournament by Sports Illustrated in 2014. Teams stay and play at the Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya. The resort's convention center ballroom is converted into an arena, which provides fans a special close-up view of the games.
