DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to announce the signing of center fielder Kennie Taylor to a National Letter of Intent.
Currently a senior at Jesuit High School in Tampa, Fla., Taylor will join the Blue Devils in the fall of 2015.
“We're extremely excited to welcome Kennie to our program,” Pollard said. “He's an absolute game changer on the bases with his speed and athleticism. Kennie is a very versatile defender and can play of lot of positions as well. He has surprising power for his size and will be able to put pressure on defenses with his electric speed.”
A 2014 Perfect Game Underclass Third Team selection, Taylor is also among the top 350 national prospects according to the organization. In addition, Perfect Game ranks him among the top 50 overall prospects in the state of Florida and top 65 outfielders in the nation.
Taylor helped Jesuit to the 2014 FHSAA 5A State Championship and the Tigers are favored to repeat in 2015. He hit .348 this past season with 29 runs, 24 RBI and 16 stolen bases. For his efforts, Taylor was named to the Tampa Bay Times All-Hillsborough County first team as well as garnering team MVP accolades. Taylor is also a second time All-Hillsborough County selection as well as a second team Tampa Bay Times All-Tampa Bay pick.
