DURHAM, N.C. – Duke freshman defender Sarah Furey has been selected to the United States U19 junior national roster for the squad's upcoming Belgium tour, as announced Monday, Feb. 23 by USA Field Hockey.
The U.S. U19 and U17 junior national teams will face an elite Holland club and compete in several matches in Belgium April 4-10.
Furey, who was named a member of the U.S. U19 junior national team last summer, started all 20 games for Duke in the backfield during her rookie season. The Mt. Laurel, N.J., native tallied one assist on the year and was part of a defense that concluded the 2014 campaign ranked seventh nationally in goals against average (1.18) and 13th in shutouts per game (0.30).
Blue Devil signees Caroline Andretta and Sammi Steele were also named to the U.S. U19 roster and will join future Duke teammate Furey in Belgium.
Monday's announcement by USA Field Hockey also included the release of the U.S. U17 junior national roster. Duke associate head coach Jarred Martin will help oversee that squad during April's Belgium tour.
