
Duke in Fourth at Yale Spring Invitational

NEW HAVEN, CONN. -- The Duke men's golf team is fourth at the Yale Spring Invitational after posting a 10-over 570 Saturday. The Blue Devils opened with a four-under 276 in the opening round before closing the afternoon with a 294.
Wake Forest holds the 36-hole lead with six-under 554 with Clemson (563), Virginia (569), Duke (570), Yale (580) and Michigan State (580) rounding out the top five. Virginia Tech (581), Harvard (582), Hartford (586) and Brown (586) complete the top 10 followed by Towson (590), Connecticut (592), Boston College (592) and Yale 'B' (630) wrapping up the field.
Danny Womble (Wake Forest) fired rounds of 70 and 66 to grab a two-stroke lead over Paul McBride (Wake Forest). Duke's Adam Wood is tied for fifth with an even-par 140, while Alexander Matlari, competing as an individual, is tied for 10th at two-over (142).
Wood fired a season-low 66 (-4) in the opening round, including a 30 on his opening nine, before carding a four-over 74 in the second round.
Matlari recorded rounds of 72 and 70 to sit inside the top 20 of the individual leaderboard, while Turner Southey-Gordon and Michael Ricaurte are also near the top of the leaderboard after 36 holes of play.
Southey-Gordon carded rounds of 73 and 70 for a three-over 143, while Ricaurte is four-over after rounds of 69 and 75. Freshman Jake Shuman is tied for 22nd with a five-over 145 (70-75) with Max Greyserman tied for 31st following rounds of 71 and 75. Motin Yeung, competing as an individual, had rounds of 75 and 77 to enter Sunday's final round tied for 61st.
Sunday's final round will be an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start with the Blue Devils paired with Yale and Michigan State.
