DURHAM, N.C. – The ACC announced Wednesday the student-athletes that earned spots on the 2015 Women's Indoor Track and Field All-ACC Academic Team, with Duke leading all conference schools with 10 selections. The 10 Blue Devil women join the nine Duke men that also earned All-ACC Academic honors.
The 10 Blue Devils that were selected by the conference were graduate student Erica Brand, seniors Lauren Hansson and Elizabeth Kerpon, redshirt juniors Karli Johonnot and Teddi Maslowski, juniors Anima Banks, Megan Clark and Madison Granger, redshirt sophomore Urina Harrell and freshman Maddy Price. This year marks the third consecutive year that Banks, Clark and Kerpon have been named to the All-ACC Academic team, while Johonnot has been selected for the second straight time and third time in her career. For Hansson, this is her second appearance on the academic team. The remaining five Blue Devils garner the honor for the first time in their respective careers.
Five of the 10 honorees ended their seasons at the NCAA Indoor Championships, led by Clark taking the silver medal in the women's pole vault with an indoor school-record vault of 14-9.00 (4.50m). The Fort Benning, Ga., native eventually was named the 2015 ACC Women's Indoor Field Performer of the Year, thanks in large part to her gold medal-winning performance at the ACC Championships.
Also earning first team All-America honors were Kerpon, Hansson and Price, who were on the women's 4x400 relay that finished sixth with a school record time of 3:32.56. The three were also members of the 4x400 relay that earned silver at the ACC Championships and the 4x200 squad that set the school record (1:36.45) at the Armory Invitational. Individually, the trio added their names to the Duke record books in a number of events, highlighted by Kerpon setting records in both the 200m and 300m.
Rounding out the Blue Devil contingent at the national meet was Maslowski in the women's long jump, placing 10th and being named a second team All-American. At the conference meet, Maslowski won the bronze medal in both the 60m hurdles and pentathlon and placed fourth in the long jump, three events that she set school records in during the season.
Fellow multi-event athlete Johonnot concluded her 2015 indoor campaign at the ACC Indoor Championships, placing fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5-8.75 (1.75m). During the season, Johonnot improved her positions on the school's top-five performers lists, moving to No. 2 in the long jump and No. 5 in the 60m hurdles.
Distance runners Banks and Granger each produced sixth-place performances at the ACC Championships. Banks took sixth in the 800m, running a 2:05.65 to rank second all-time in Duke history, while Granger earned a sixth-place finish of her own in the mile with a time of 4:44.70.
Competing in the throwing events, Brand and Harrell placed fifth and sixth, respectively, in the shot put at the conference meet, registering marks of 49-2.50 (15.00m) and 48-3.50 (14.72m). Harrell's performance ranks third all-time in school history, while Brand moved to fourth in the weight throw earlier in the season with a toss of 50.2.75 (15.31m).
The Duke track and field program will resume competition next week, hosting the Duke Twilight at Morris Williams Stadium May 6-7.
