DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University rising junior
Rebecca Quinn has been selected one of 23 players to compete for Canada's Women's National Soccer Team in a women's international friendly against France April 9, 2015 in Europe. The contest will be played at the Stade Robert-Bodin in Bondoufle, France at 3:00 p.m.
Quinn, who is a product of Toronto, Canada, recently played for Canada in the Cyprus Cup. As a sophomore, Quinn started 12-of-14 matches with the Blue Devils. The 5-9 midfielder tallied two goals and two assists, while notching the game-winning tally at N.C. State. She is slated to play on defense for the Canadian national team.
Canada is unbeaten in the last two meetings between the two teams with a win and a draw. The win came at the 2012 Olympics while the draw was a 1-1 result April 4, 2013 at the Stade du Ray in Nice.
This summer, France will be based in Group F at the FIFA Women's World Cup alongside England, Colombia and Mexico. France also has the distinction of hosting the next FIFA Women's World Cup in 2019 after Canada's had its turn in the international soccer spotlight.
Canada kicks off its quest at the FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada June 6 when it will face China PR at Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium. The squad will then have to top New Zealand (Edmonton, June 11) and the Netherlands (Montreal, June 15) for a chance to continue in the competition, which will conclude with the championship match in Vancouver on July 5.
