DURHAM, N.C. -- The draw for the 2015 NCAA Singles Championship were released Tuesday, May 19, with Duke represented by senior and 39th-ranked singles player, Ester Goldfeld. The Brooklyn, N.Y., native opens first round competition Wednesday, facing 34th-ranked Erin Routliffe of Alabama at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas. The match time is set for 10 a.m. (ET).
Goldfeld's selection to the singles tournament marks the seventh consecutive year Duke was represented in the competition. In the history of Duke women's tennis, two Blue Devils, Mallory Cecil and Vanessa Webb (1998), have been crowned national champions at the end of the singles tournament.
Wednesday's contest with Routliffe marks the second meeting of the season between the two competitors. In the previous match, Goldfeld downed Routliffe, 6-0, 7-6 (7-4), in Duke's consolation round contest with Alabama Feb. 8. Following the match with Routliffe, Goldfeld posted a record of 10-7, including a seven-match win streak.
Overall, Goldfeld compiled a singles record of 25-14 this season, while reaching as high as 37th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) national singles poll. The four-time All-ACC honoree surpassed the 100-win plateau for her career earlier in the year, becoming the 24th player in Duke history to achieve such a feat. Throughout the 2015 campaign, Goldfeld split time between courts one and two, earning a 5-2 mark at the primary position and a 10-6 ledger on court two.
As a team, the Blue Devils reached the second round of the NCAA Team Championship before falling to sixth-seeded Georgia, 4-0, Sunday, May 10.
