DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University incoming freshman
Taylor Racioppi has been named to the Under-20 Women's National Team that will represent the United States in the 2015 U-20 NTC Invitational from June 2-6 at the U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Carson, Calif.
Along with the U.S., Brazil, Japan and Mexico will compete on the Glenn “Mooch” Myernick Field over a span of five days. Each of the match days – June 2, 4 and 6 – will feature a doubleheader with the USA playing the second game of the day. The winner of the competition will be based on total points with the first tiebreakers being overall goal difference and then total goals scored.
The schedule of events will kick off June 2 with Mexico vs. Brazil at 3:00 p.m., followed by U.S. against Japan at 6 p.m. On June 4, Brazil will face Japan at 3 p.m., and then the U.S. will take on Mexico at 6 p.m. The invitational will close Saturday, June 6 as Japan will go up against Mexico and then the U.S. versus Brazil at 3 p.m. All tournament matches will be streamed live on ussoccer.com.
All of the teams are currently preparing for qualifying for the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup which will be held in Papau New Guinea. Like the USA, Brazil has participated in all seven of the FIFA U-19/U-20 Women's World Cups that have been contested thus far. Japan has participated in four tournaments and Mexico has played in all but the 2004 tournament in Thailand that was a U-19 event.
U-20 Women's National Team head coach Michelle French has called in 20 players for the tournament. Racioppi continues to be a mainstay with the U.S. teams, after competing in the U-20 World Cup this past summer.
Racioppi, who hails from Ocean Township, N.J., signed with Duke in February and will be a freshman with the Blue Devils in the fall of 2015. The midfielder is ranked as the No. 2 overall player in the class of 2015 by TopDrawerSoccer.com and currently attends Academy of Allied Health and Science. She compiled 50 goals, 16 assists and 116 points over three years of high school soccer.
