TORONTO – The United States women's national field hockey team will take a perfect record heading into the playoff round at the 2015 Pan American Games after concluding pool play with a 12-0 victory over Cuba Friday, July 17.
The U.S. squad posted three shutouts in as many matches this week at the Pan Am/Parapan Am Fields in Toronto. The team opened the tournament with a 5-0 decision over Uruguay Monday before dispatching Chile by a 2-0 score Wednesday. Team USA then exploded for 12 goals in Friday's win over Cuba, putting the squad at the top of the Pool B standings heading into next Monday's quarterfinal round. The U.S. will face the fourth-place finisher from Pool A, which consists of Argentina, Canada, the Dominican Republic and Mexico.
Former Blue Devil defender Stefanie Fee has seen action in all three contests in Toronto, while redshirt senior goalkeeper Lauren Blazing is also with the team as a reserve goalkeeper. Duke is one of six schools with multiple athletes on the U.S. roster for the Pan American Games. Team USA is seeking qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
